Former Chancellor finds new job in Turks and Caicos after early retirement in Guyana

Guyanese were greeted with a Press release from the Governor of Turks and Caicos (TCI) conveying the message that our former Chancellor was now Chief Justice of that territory.  The announcement caused quite a stir in Guyana, as the last time Guyanese heard of Justice Cummings-Edwards was in October 2025.

On 25 October 2025, the President of Guyana made the announcement that the Acting Chancellor of Guyana at the time, Justice Cummings-Edwards would be proceeding to early retirement. The backdrop to this statement was a few days of speculation in the media about whether the then Chancellor would be continuing in her acting position.

The former Chancellor being a career public servant of 37 years in Guyana, must have decided that early retirement didn’t suit her. As she applied for a job posting for the position of Chief Justice in TCI which was posted online on 16 January 2026. As the Governor’s statement proclaims;

“The appointment follows a rigorous and highly competitive process, from which Hon. Justice Cummings-Edwards emerged as an exceptional candidate”

Congratulations to Justice Cummings-Edwards, she has moved on from an acting appointment in Guyana to a three year appointment in TCI.

There is a business lesson here. There are no permanent decisions, you can always pivot to something new once you have the skills and determination.
